Prayers for Our Country

A couple of prayers from the Bishop for our country.

Dear God, you have reminded us throughout time and in many ways that we are to have no other gods before you. In the intensity of the political process this year we are tempted to think our side will save us. Dear God send your Spirit to guide me and all of us as we remember we are to fear, love, and trust YOU above all things, all parties, all ideas and all candidates. You alone will lighten our darkness, but use us to work in our own corner of the world to reflect your light into the darkest of spaces and places. Encourage us as we live out our many callings in Jesus name. Amen.

Lord have mercy!
Yet let our faith never be stronger!
When our country and our world is in trouble the church goes into action, testifying to a most benevolent God who desires to save all but is never reticent to protect those most vulnerable.
Let our prayer be "God be with us; God be with our country; God be with our world., as you have promised."

  1. Thank you for the post. I'm grateful that I don't have television because I am inundated with political rantings WITHOUT television! Yesterday's church sermon was a nice reminder that we are all in Heaven on our way to Heaven... Therefore, we can each continue making this world better, no matter WHO wins the election! Thank you for this nice prayer as a reminder!
