Saturday Afternoon Event and Sunday Interview Cancelled

Dear Genesee Lutheran Parish Family,

Pastor Joel Skindlov has withdrawn his name from our call process, as he is involved with another church call, and they are going to vote to confirm him this week.
He has offered to pray for our congregation in our process. I said that we appreciated his openness and thanked him for his prayers.
The Sunday interview is cancelled, as well as the Saturday afternoon get-together at the Valley we had planned. The Potluck will also be cancelled, a few of us will bring some refreshments for Fellowship plus there is the ice cream that Mark and Carly Stutzman brought.
If you know of someone who would want to know this information, but is not listed on this email, or who does not have email, please let us know so we might contact them, or just go ahead and contact them yourself. Thank you for spreading this word.
.
Stay tuned for information about the Friday night Theology on Tap, as that, hopefully, will still take place.
As an aside, Verna Studer and I would love to discuss what we learned at Synod Assembly at Theology on Tap, so consider joining us and bring questions!

God Bless You!!

Prayer of the Day
Almighty and eternal God, the strength of those who believe and the hope of those who doubt, may we, who have not seen, have faith in you and receive the fullness of Christ’s blessing, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

WE HEAR GOD’S WORD
First Reading                                                           Acts 2:14a, 22-32
Psalm  16
Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
    I have no good apart from you.”
As for the holy ones in the land, they are the noble,
    in whom is all my delight.
Those who choose another god multiply their sorrows;
    their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
    or take their names upon my lips.
The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
    you hold my lot.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; I have a goodly heritage.
I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
    in the night also my heart instructs me.
I keep the Lord always before me;
    because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices;
    my body also rests secure.
10 For you do not give me up to Sheol,
    or let your faithful one see the Pit.
11 You show me the path of life.
    In your presence there is fullness of joy;
    in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Sunday, Feb. 5 Gospel

Matthew 5:13-20

Salt and Light

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

The Law and the Prophets

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter,[a] not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore, whoever breaks[b] one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Prelude
Welcome and Announcements

Confession and Forgiveness:
In the name of God the Father of Glory
In the name of God the + Son, our Redeemer;
In the name of God the holy and life-giving Spirit.  Amen
The Sun of righteousness shall rise
with shining beams of healing.
Let us gather under the wings of God’s mercy.
Gracious God,
We acknowledge that we are sinners and we confess our sins—those known and to us that burden our hearts, and those unknown to us but seen by you.
We know that before you nothing remains hidden,
And in you everything is revealed.
Free us from the slavery of sin;
Liberate us from the bondage of guilt;
And work in us that which is pleasing in your sight;
For the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.   Amen.
With a heart full of mercy and compassion,
Christ, the dawn from on high, shines upon us and by the light of Holy Spirit
Guides our feet into the way of peace. Amen
