The Installation Was a SUCCESS!

What an amazing day last Sunday was!

First of all, Sunday worship was filled with joy!  Friends and family of  Pastor Dana and Devanie joined us at service.  The music was lively and awe-inspiring.

What was most wondrous was how the people of Genesee Lutheran Parish worked together so well to create a remarkable and exciting celebration of the Installation Service for Pastor Dana!

Even though much of the preparation which happened earlier and behind the scenes was completed, three o'clock at the park was a bit hectic!

The band, Borderline Blue, with members Patrick Adams, Keri Le Force, and Gary Scheer, were moving into the gazebo and setting up.  Patrick and Gary even let some neighborhood kids open their cases and "help" them set up!

Football team players had moved the HEAVY picnic tables the night before so that the tables could be decorated with red and white gingham tablecloths and BEAUTIFUL zinnias from the garden of Connie Jain, sister of Amy Jain Peterson.

INSPIRE had created garlands from old hymnal pages to decorate the gazebo.

Phyllis Kannikeberg, Dana Carter, Louise Marone, and Jennifer Parkins created a lovely altar at the gazebo!  They also selected hymns for the audience to sing, and Jennifer sang for us!

Bishop-Elect Kristen arrived with a joyful smile, easing any concerns that some of the organizers felt and immediately met with other visiting pastors and Pastor Dana:  Pastor and Cluster Dean, Phil Misner, from Endicott and Colfax, and his children; Pastor Wes Howell and his wife Linda, Pastor Phyllis Stromme, and Pastor Dean.

Members of Genesee Lutheran Parish, members of the different churches of the Palouse Cluster, as well as of the local Genesee Community Church attended, as well as Genesee friends!  At least 86 people attended this beautiful event.

After the installation, Borderline Blue began playing;  owner and chef of Big John's Barbeque, GLP Council President John Marone barbecued the yummy chicken and hot dogs for the free picnic. Members of the church provided  home-made potato salad, side dishes, and rolls.  A huge sheet cake, welcoming Pastor Dana, was dessert.

After a great afternoon of conversation, music, and food and when time came to wrap up the party,
Doug Cartwright, Rich Parkins, Brent Studer, Rich and John Marone,  Dan Carter, and Pastor Dana (maybe more?) helped move the heavy furniture and supplies to clean up the area. Thank you to the ladies:  Karen Fliger, Randi Adams, Dana Carter, and Rosanna Cartwright who served food and beverages.

Our dear little Genesee Lutheran Parish sure knows how to put on a shin-dig!  I am still amazed at how everyone chipped in and made this marvelous day happen!

Welcome, Helsings!

Gospel on the Porch, Aug 30

Tonight, Wednesday, Aug 30, at 6:30 p.m., folks will join Pastor Dana Helsing at Rosanna Cartwright's home for "Gospel on the Porch," even though you'll really meet in a cozy corner of the yard!
The Gospel is: Matthew 16:21-28New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Predicts His Death
21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
Footnotes:
Matthew 16:25 The Greek word means either life or soul; also in verse 26

Preparation for Installation of Pastor Dana Helsing

Prepping for the Installation of Pastor Dana Helsing is so exciting!

At this point, these are the facts that we know:

Patrick reserved the gazebo at the City Park, and Rosanna made "reserved" signs to post the night before.  Apparently, the bathrooms in the park are open!

Patrick and his band, the trio "Borderline Blues" are DONATING their music from 4:30 - 6:30! (They usually charge $300!)   Thanks, folks!

Phyllis, Jennifer, and maybe Dana C will create the spot for the installation so that we can feel the Spirit with us!

Brent, Doug, Mark, and any others who are willing to help will move a few tables and chairs from St. John:  tables for serving food and chairs for extra seating.

John (Big John's BBQ of Moscow) volunteered to prep the chicken for the event.  We're asking families of the church to bring a gallon of potato salad (purchased or home-made).  We'll have a huge cooler there with lots of ice to keep the potato salad safe.  The church will purchase the rolls, paper plates and napkins, plasticware, cups, and bottles of water.  Devanie and Rosanna will provide the cake!  We're keeping the food simple!

Louise and Jennifer will talk about the music and hymns that we'll have during the installation. Louise suggested that we have songs that EVERYONE knows.

Pastor Phil Misner will officiate.

Rosanna created and printed invitations, flyers, and reserved signs for the event.

INSPIRE is sending invitations to churches in our Palouse Cluster and some of the churches nearby, too, as well as to Genesee Community Church and St Mary's Catholic Church.   In addition, they are creating banners to decorate the gazebo.

We could use help with "take-down" after the event, if anyone wants to volunteer.

If you can think of anything else that needs done, please let us know!
